Live face swap tools compared: LiveSwap.ai, Deep-Live-Cam, DeepFaceLive, Swapface and liveswap.io

Cloud or local? What each live face swap tool needs (GPU, install), which AI model it uses, how it reaches OBS or Zoom, and what it costs.

2026年11月3日LiveSwapLiveSwap

Short answer: cloud tools (LiveSwap.ai, liveswap.io) need no GPU and no install but charge for usage; local tools (Deep-Live-Cam, DeepFaceLive, Swapface) are free or one-off, keep video on your machine, and need a capable GPU plus setup. For results, LiveSwap.ai's commercial models come out ahead. Details below, checked on November 3, 2026 against each project's public page.

FaceFusion is another popular open-source face swap toolkit that runs on your computer. Its README warns that manual installation "needs technical skills", and it offers Windows and macOS installers; check its documentation for live webcam support.

Cloud or local: the real trade-off

Hardware. Local tools turn your GPU into the AI engine. Without a recent NVIDIA card (or Apple Silicon for Deep-Live-Cam) they run slowly or not at all. Cloud tools run the model on the provider's servers, so an older laptop works too. See Do you need a GPU for live face swap?

Cost. Open-source tools cost nothing per minute but need the hardware. Cloud tools charge for time; LiveSwap.ai bills by the second and returns unused credits after each session.

Privacy. A local tool never sends your video anywhere. With a cloud tool your camera stream goes to the model provider while you generate. LiveSwap.ai keeps the camera preview on your device until you press start and does not record your camera video; see the privacy policy for what the providers receive.

Setup and upkeep. Deep-Live-Cam needs Python, model downloads and GPU libraries. DeepFaceLive is a portable folder but is no longer maintained. Cloud tools open in a browser tab and update on their own.

Which gives the best results?

LiveSwap.ai. It runs commercial, closed models, X-Max 2.1 and Lucy 2.6, that outperform open-source local face swap:

  • The models are built and updated by AI companies that specialize in real-time video generation, and run on data-center GPUs, so your graphics card is not the limit.
  • The inswapper_128 model common in open-source live face swap works on a 128×128-pixel face and is licensed for non-commercial research only (as the Deep-Live-Cam README states).
  • Besides face swap, the same models restyle your camera and do virtual try-on.

liveswap.io and Swapface do not say which model they use, so you can only judge by trying. LiveSwap.ai tells you the model and its price per second before you start. More in Which AI models LiveSwap.ai uses.

How each one reaches OBS and video calls

  • LiveSwap.ai: open the output window and add it in OBS with Window Capture; for Zoom, Google Meet or Teams, start the OBS Virtual Camera. The Windows app adds its own LiveSwap Camera. OBS setup guide
  • Deep-Live-Cam: its README says to use a screen capture tool such as OBS to stream.
  • DeepFaceLive: built for streaming and video calls, with separate setup docs.
  • liveswap.io: says it feeds OBS, Streamlabs or any virtual webcam.

Which should you choose?

  • Best results: LiveSwap.ai's commercial models; pick Lucy 2.6 for the highest quality.
  • No GPU, want to start in a minute: LiveSwap.ai. Pick X-Max 2.1 for more minutes per dollar or Lucy 2.6 for higher quality.
  • Strong NVIDIA GPU, comfortable with Python, want it free: Deep-Live-Cam.
  • Video must never leave your computer: a local tool.
  • Want try-on or restyle as well as face swap: LiveSwap.ai has all three.
